Raymetrics SA has been the principal sponsor of the 2 nd International Workshop on Space-Based Lidar Remote Sensing Techniques and emerging technologies which was held in June 4-8, 2018, in Milos island. This specific workshop was organized by Europe Space Agency (ESA), and scientists and technologists from differenct countries, government agencies, space industries and universities were invited by ESA in order to discuss issues and present their work on inportant issues related to current and planned space lidar missions and enabling technologies. (https://www.lidar-workshop-2018.com/) Raymetrics staff attended the conference and also presented their work on the Qoma2 project funded by ESA (Raymetrics is the prime contractor and the coordinator of the project). This project is an international collaboration between Cilas (France), LZH (Germany), NTUA (Greece) targeting to the development of a compact 1064nm DPSS laser which can be applied to ground-based operational lidar systems and also can be considered by ESA for future space lidar missions. Qoma2 project is a continuation of an ESA project which started some years ago and includes innovations related with application of multisesegmented crystal rods and pumping diodes of QCW 400 Watt power. Improvements of beam profiles by using optimized Nd concentration across the crystal rods with optimum thermal management and excellent laser energy stabilization for both active and passive Q-switch operation are presented in the following plots.
